Franz Haas at Marion
This October, we hosted the team from Italy's Franz Haas for a tasting at Marion. Established in 1880 in the Alto Adige region of Italy's north, Franz Haas is headed by the eighth-generation brother and sister team, Franz and Sofi, together with their mother Maria Luisa.
The Alto Adige region borders Austria and is an awe-inspiring backdrop for grape-growing. With long, icy winters countered by scorching summers (with only the breezes from nearby Lago di Garda to moderate), the vines here reflect the challenging extremes of viticulture. Soaring mountains on either side of a valley bisected by the Adige River reflect the drama of the temperature swings — both seasonally, and from day to night.
Franz Haas has built a reputation for crisp aromatic white wines from local varieties along with inspired white blends including the flagship white, Manna, a blend of Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Traminer and Kerner. These bottles are a perfect complement to our spring menu here at Marion.
The iconic Franz Haas labels catch the eye of any wine lover. It was a real privilege to welcome both Sofi and Andi from Franz Haas into Marion.
